El Palmar!!

Bom dia!!

Bem vindos a El Palmar!!

Good morning and Welcome to El Palmar!! This park was created in 1966 to preserve one of the last areas that have the “Yatay” Palm tree. We arrived here on Wednesday night. All the guides and workers at the place were waiting for us, and they were really nice! They showed us the place (we are sleeping at old train carriages, which are really cool and charming) and soon after we had a delicious dinner! After dinner, we had fun singing old songs at a Karaoke: it was great!

Yesterday we started our activities here. In the morning we went horseback riding and cannoning. We had lunch and after the “siesta” (time after lunch to rest), around 3:30 in the afternoon, we made a Safari at this ecological reserve. That night, after dinner, we had a bonfire and farewell party, where we said goodbye to each other, and spoke and laughed about all the special moments we spent together! Everyone was sad and happy at the same time: the group was really close together during the trip!

We are leaving now to Puerto Iguazu, where we will stop for the night to rest and because of safety (we do not travel during the nights) and tomorrow early we’ll cross to the Brazilian side.

Sadly, the trip has reached the end, and everyone is very upset about the conclusion of the trip!! Yet many are already prepared for the next adventure to the Amazon, which will depart in only one week!!!

I would like to thank our coordination, drivers, and our chaperone from district 4770, Adriana Chuffi Rodrigues for helping me take care of the exchange students and for being and amazing friend!! As well to the students for being absolutely great throughout the trip!! I love you all!! To Clarissa, our other coordinator, Good Luck with your experience in Australia (she is going to study there to improve her English). Thank you for the Amazing two years working so hard with Terra Brasil and me!

The word of the trip is: LEGENDARY (right, Darren?!)!!!

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the reports and photos! Thank you very much for everything, and I will talk to you on the next Terra Brasil adventure!!!

Buenos....Aires!

Bom dia!!

Good morning!

I’m writing now from the city of Buenos Aires (Bons Ares in Portuguese), the federal capital of the Republic of Argentina. It is the third largest city of South America and one of the largest urban centers in the world! As I wrote before, we arrived by ferry Sunday. The one hour trip until here was great, and the students enjoyed to spend time (and money) at the duty free shop of the Ferry boat!

Monday morning we went out for a panoramic city tour of this marvelous metropolis. We encountered such points of interest as Avenida 9 de Julio (the widest avenue in the world!), Avenida Corrientes (site of the famous obelisk, symbol of Buenos Aires), theatre of Colón (that unfortunately we couldn’t visit because it was closed for reformation) Plaza de Mayo, where we saw the the Cabildo and the Casa Rosada. Next we visited the neighborhood of La Boca; entering the famous La Bombonera (football stadium of Boca Juniors), and we went to Caminito street, where various exchange students took photos with Tango dancers! We finished our tour with the neighborhood of Puerto Madero, one of the most expensive places to live! We returned to our hotel walking so the students could visit the famous Florida Street to make more purchases!! At night, we had dinner at a delicious pizza house and just after, we visited HARD ROCK CAFÉ!! Many students bought T-shirts and had a lot of fun!!

Yesterday we enjoyed sleeping a little later, because the day would be a long one. We left the hotel at about 10:00 for the neighborhood that is known as the most glamorous in Buenos Aires: Recoleta. We walked to the Avenida Alvear, where we encountered beautiful constructions and buildings. We visited also the cemetery of La Recoleta: an absolute work of art!! We well there we were able to visit the tomb of the world famous Evita Perón! We had a free lunch and then went to the famous neighborhood of Palermo Soho to do some more shopping!

During the night we went out to dinner and a Tango show at a place called La Ventana! The show was amazing, and they showed lot of Argentinean culture! Everyone wanted to learn to dance as a result!!

Today we had a free morning to rest and say goodbye to Buenos Aires. In a bit we will leave to the last stop of this great South American Adventure before we come back to Brasil: El Palmar! From there I will send the last news!

Montevidéu!!!

Buenos Dias!!!

Ontem continuamos nosso tour.

Good Afternoon!

We arrived here in Gramado on the 11th of April during the afternoon! Here we can really understand what is meant by “a little piece of Europe in Brasil”. Besides the architecture and the clothing, the temperature is also much lower, except for today when it was really hot! As soon as we arrived here, we went to visit the chocolate factory where we saw THE BIGGEST CHOCOLATE BUNNY IN THE WORLD!! Then we arrived at our hotel, checked in, ate dinner, and went to rest.

Yesterday morning we began our activities here. We departed for the city of Canela six kilometers from here and went to explore the Caracol Park! There the exchange students were treated to a beautiful view of a 131 meter tall waterfall! Next we left for the Castelinho Caracol, inside of which exists a small museum of the German colonization of the area, as well as the opportunity to taste the delicious Apfelstrudel (apple pie) of the region! The German exchange students on the trip were excited to say the least, but said that It tasted different from the one in Germany! After this we visited Steam World, where we found more than tem miniature production units powered by steam, like granaries, windmills, steam engines, and the smallest paper factory in the world.

We ate lunch and had some free time in the beautiful center of Canela.

We returned to our hotel and prepared ourselves for a wonderful evening of emotion and good food! First we went to Knorr Park (Santa Claus Village). There you really feel that you are in Santa’s house! Many exchange students made wished to put at the Wish tree..I hope all of them come true!! After we ate dinner at the authentic “Café Colonial” of Serra Gaúcha, where we tasted sweet and salty tarts, cheeses, pies, and other delicious that you probably cannot imagine!!

Today we awoke a little later, checked out, and went to visit the museum Hollywood Dream Cars. There the exchange students fell in love with the antique collection of cars and motorcycles which included Harley Davidson and Ford. All this well with the music of Elvis Presley resonated inside of our ear drums! Everyone took a lot of pictures and loved it! Then we journeyed to Lago Negro. There some exchange students pedaled swan boats around the lake while others chose to walk the circumference of the lake or bask in the rays of the morning sun. Next we had free time in the center of Gramado, and everyone had a chance to view the architecture, buy souvenirs, and feel a little bit more of the semi cool weather.

The adventures here were marvelous, and this city has brought us many fond memories, particularly for the Canadians, Europeans, and the Americans on the trip!!

We are soon leaving for Porto Alegre, the last city of Brasil that we will visit on the South American Adventure: next we will leave for Uruguay and Argentina!! From there, I will send more news!!

Florianópolis!

Bom Dia!

Good Morning!!

Welcome to Florianópolis, affectionately known as Floripa, Capital of the state Santa Catarina! We have left Curitiba early, and we went straight to the bus station, where we left by train on a marvelous trip through “Serra do Mar”. Everyone was fascinated with the view and took many photos. We arrived in a city called Morretes, where we enjoyed the delicious typical plate of the region called “Barreado”. We arrived here around 10h00 at night. Florianópolis is an island connected to the continent by two bridges, one being the older Ponte Hercílio Luz, the famous post card photo of the city (that today is only open to pedestrians and cyclist).

The climate is hotter then in Curitiba!

Yesterday morning we took a boat tour in “Lagoa da Conceição”, the best known natural tourist points of the city. We were able to observe diverse animals and plants and we admired a beautiful view. We stopped in a restaurant at the bay to eat lunch at an all you can eat shrimp and fish buffet “Very delicious”.

After, we went to the dunes of Joaquina beach and despite of the rain, practiced sand boarding, falling and laughing a lot. Next, we walked through the dunes to the famous beach, known nation wide for the great surfing. Besides the cool weather and the wind, some exchange students enjoyed entering the ocean. Others preferred to explore the stalls and also scale the large rocks to enjoy the view and take photos.

At night we had a small party at our hotel to celebrate the birthdays of the exchange students on the trip. There was music and lot of fun!! We danced a lot!!

At 9:00 we will leave for the most charming city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (in my opinion), called Gramado. I will send more news soon!

Curitiba!!

Bom Dia!
